I heard the tickets for the Summer Olympics just went on sale. Anyone here going? What sport do you like to watch most from the Summer Olympics and is there a particular athlete/team/country you are rooting for? (of course other than Yuna lol) My earliest memories of watching the Olympics were from 1992, Barcelona. I remember my two elder brothers would stay up late to watch basketball and volleyball then. Four years later, I sat down late one evening and watched the 1996 Olympics also, and can remember vividly the news during the bombing in Atlanta. I was really young but it has become a tradition for me since then. The Olympics truly are spectacular and truly brings people together. Athletes are so lucky to be part of that experience.

It’s fun having the Olympics in the “background” so to speak – something I can tune into and relax in front of whenever I please. They’re also that rare event that so many people can share/talk about as they unfold in real time. I especially like the synchronized diving and gymnastics. Like figure skating they employ a degree of artistry. The opening/closing ceremonies are also great to watch. The 2008 ceremonies in Beijing (directed by my favorite film director Zhang Yimou) were jaw-droppingly spectacular. I can’t say I have a favorite athlete/team I’m rooting for. Naturally I’d be glad to see the USA do well but it’s not important to me that we win more medals than anyone. Frankly I wish the whole medal count “contest” was downplayed.

Agree that opening/closing ceremonies are always a feat to watch. The 2008 ceremonies was one of the best organized opening ceremony in my opinion. I didn’t know it was Zhang Yimou who directed it. I didn’t realize it but I have watched alot of his movies such as “Hero”, “Curse of the Golden Flower”, and “House of Flying Dagger.” He is an awesome director! Will be looking forward to the Summer Olympics. On another note, anyone know when is it? lol I’ve never thought about the date or to do the research, lazy me!

The Olympics run from July 27 to August 12. Here’s the official schedule: http://www.london2012.com/schedule-and-results/ Re. Zhang Yimou, check out one of his “smaller” films:”Not One Less” – a very simple, touching story about a young girl who become a substitute teacher in a poor rural town. Bring tissues.

Thank you Seano for the information. With this info, I am looking forward to the summer. Definitely will watch that film “Not One Less” and will cry a bucket then.

Japaneses swimmers and a Korean one wining his podium. Alain Bernard and Laure Manaudou surfin’ ahead the heads. Michael Fred Phelbs underwater swim. Sébastien Mobré winning a gold medal. Judoka women performing pure Judo’s gestures like during the last games, the medal figure were on the tatami weirdly without medal. .I’d like to see Koreans winning all taekwendo’s medals. I hope you will love the french Badmington woman player, her legs game is wonderful. And the gold medal of beer drinker without pissing. The english JO should be cool. And of course Yuna, if she goes with me. I’ll be happy to know that she would have more interressant to do.
May 14, 2012 at 2:30 pm #22750It’s only a while before we can see them again Lenmange. It will be soon.

The other day I saw the match between the Korean and Chinese on Women’s bow archery. Wow…the Koreans have won since 1988 and also took gold in London! Also watched several competitions here and there too.

The lighting effects throughout the stadium seating were awesome. Overall very beautiful, although I don’t think it can match the grandeur of the Beijing ceremonies. But it did have Sir Paul! I find the Olympics fun because I enjoy watching sports in general, even if I know little about a particular discipline. Human athleticism is fascinating. But figure skating is the only one that makes me cry

That’s great that you enjoyed it. I saw a little bit of it but of course the one in Beijing is grandest.

Hehehe..I kept thinking about Yuna’s Olympic performance throughout the day when I watch the Summer Olympics. I suppose I am still encompassed in joy ever since experiencing what Yuna had done at her glorious moment back in Vancouver that each time there’s another victorious feat in these Olympics, I am reminded all over again of Yuna.

I just saw a preview from NBC previewing Sochi in 2014 and there were many clips of Yuna included. As a fan of her, I am happy to see these clips and how she represents/is a part of the winter Olympics. Usually, NBC doesn’t show other countries’ athletes from watching the Summer Olympics this year, but in the winter Olympics, it’s a different story and Yuna has made her mark.

But what’s interesting is they used a photo of Yuna with Korean viewers on the main. I agree that the Olympics do make some people not do anything but watch them. I didn’t have much free time to catch the Olympics in London but any free time I have I did tune in when I can.

I am glad to hear that. I also found out that Yuna was often mentioned by the media around the world during London Olympics. One example is Canadian broadcast CTV mentioned Yuna when rhythmic gymnast Kanayeva was doing her performance.
Commentator1 : She has helped revolutionize this sport. True creativity like what we see here. Crawling down the back of her arms but immediately linked to the flip. That connection, that makes her exercises so difficult and complex. She reminds me of Kurt Browning and Patrick Chan the way she’s able to effortlessly move into one movement from the next. Not showing preparation…
Commentator2 : And that there reminds me, the use of skating analogies, of Yuna Kim, who is the embodiment of perfection and grace. And she is so easy to like, to love this sport.
